Speakers don't work under Vista

Hi all
I have purchased a new set of speakers for my Vista set up
I have plugged them into a neighbouring XP desktop and they work fine in
stereo
When I plug them into my new Vista build one side of the Stereo does not
work
The system says the devise is working ok but when I test the configuration
of the speakers one does not work
Apart from building the system, installing Hauppauge and enabling my XBoxes
I have done nothing to the set up
How can I progress the diagnosis of this problem

Roger,

Check in Control Panel > Sounds and in the Playback Devices window
highlight the Speakers and review the options there for Configuring your
sound. If you have a configuration app for your sound card, go through them
and ensure the options are set to your liking.
