Vista wont recognize External Hard disk

OK i have Maxtor ONe Touch III mini.Vista wont recognize it anymore i plugged it in another machine That Have Vista and It recognized it. Mac And Linux Recognized my hard disk
Why not vista ? i tried everything i downloaded the hard disk driver but it told me that i must Format my hard disk. i cant format it cause i have very important data.I also tried deleting Infcache.1 but nothing really helped
