Vista print spool won't cancel
I recently set up a HP DeskJet 1600 series on my home network. It is connected physically to an XP system and accessed from a Win 7 and a Vista system. Today the Vista machine began a print job, and we canceled it to do some more editing. It still says it's Deleting 29/29 pages.
I have stopped the print spooler and checked in the %SYSTEM%\spool\printers directory (you know, the old XP standby), but there are no files there. I have shut down the Vista machine, but every time it comes back, it still is trying to delete the print job.
Following someone's advice online, I finally resorted to shutting down the print spooler and then deleting the printer. Nope. The print spooler must be running to remove a printer. Now the whole printer spool/device removal/whatever is all stuck behind this *******' print job that won't delete.
What now? Does the HP driver run its own spooler and place the spooler files in a different location? What can I do?
