Vista Keyboard Malfunction

My keyboard will start malfunctioning intermittently.

When I type "asdf" the results are
"[]asdfghjkl;’`\zxcvbnm,./-+\1234567890-=qwertyuiop\" when typed over
and over. Notice that this is the middle row then the lower row and
then the number row and then the qwerty row.

This happens in Office 2003 programs when it occurs as well as other
programs.

It was causing too many problems so I had to restart and now it is not
happening.

Anyone have any ideas. Running VHP with all updates.

Thanks

Replace the keyboard.

Re: Vista Keyboard Malfunction

Not helpful

The first keyboard I used was a USB Wireless "Microsoft" keyboard.

The second keyboard I used was a "Microsoft" wired keyboard.

That's not the problem.

It's not the keys that don't work - it's the interpretation or
programming.

Thanks for the input. Just not the solution.

I've had this happen twice. In both cases I had to do a full shutdown (to
power off) to clear it. First time, about a year back, was with a PS/2
keyboard, so I couldn't really swap it while running. Second time, back
about July, it was a USB keyboard and I could swap it with another I had
handy. The initial keyboard was a non-name, the replacement was a Microsoft
wired one. The problem continued after the swap. Restarting didn't fix it
in my case. I had to power down and come up again. That would say
"hardware," but what hardware? Could have been the keyboard controller for
the PS/2 case, but for the two different USB keyboards?

Re: Vista Keyboard Malfunction

You could try looking into if there's a problem with your HID (Human
Interface Device) drivers. Whether it's USB or PS/2, they all go through
there. Check it in device manager.
