DVD ROM Missing

I am installing Visa Ultimate on my laptop HP DV2000, however after couple
weeks the DVD ROM is missing, I couldn't find the drive on My Computer or on
Device Manager.

I am a newbie, please help!

Have you rebooted? Sometimes Sleep or Hibernation loses track of drives and
rebooting will refresh the system.

Thanks for your reply,

I have countless of rebooting but the result is the same, I followed the
instruction in Microsoft to change some registry keys then I managed to
reinstall Vista but then the result is the same. I guess changing registry
keys doesn't help much because it seemed only temporary.

I need permanent solutions here.
