64 home premium and WD10eacs 1 tb esata drive difficulties - HELP PLEASE

I bought the western digital wd10eacs 1 tb drive and the proper esata
enclosure.

Vista finds it as a USB - but only can see it in device manager - I
cannot see it in my computer to format it. BUT the properties in DM say
it is working properly.

When I Plug it in using the eSata I get the same thing.

I can see it using device manager but I cannot access it - or see it
from my computer so I can format it.

can anyone help?

Windows explorer will only show valid disk partitions. Use Disk
Management to partition the drive.

Hi, BBTrekkie.

Ever since it first appeared in Windows 2000, Disk Management has been THE
tool to use to manage hard disks (and anything else that can get a "drive"
letter, like optical drives, USB flash drives, etc.), including creating and
formatting partitions. Microsoft buried Disk Management so deeply under
multiple mouse-clicks that many users (even many Windows veterans) have not
found it yet, 9 years later. :>(

The quickest way to Disk Management in Vista is just to press the Start key,
type diskmgmt.msc, and press Enter.

Re: 64 home premium and WD10eacs 1 tb esata drive difficulties - HELP PLEASE

I know this is an old thread, but thought someone searching for help
with this problem might find this answer helpful.

Try finding it in:
Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Storage
-> Disk Management.

If you can see it in there you can format and partition it, assign a
drive letter, then you should see it in 'My Computer'.

Hope this helps,
Good Luck
