Vista wont shut down properly
I am running Vista Ultimate SP1 and when I do a shutdown I get the message
that the PC (stand alone) is shutting down. The screen eventually goes
blank and reoports no video available BUT my PC is still on.

How do I fix this?

Thanks

Trevor

Asked and answered in the other newsgroup to which you posted. Please don't

Re: Vista wont shut down properly

I think i saw another thread like this earlier here too. Anyways I can
repeat what I told this other person. That I had this same problem a
while back with my system not being able to shut down unless I held the
button for 4 seconds. What happened with me was a sound card was
activating the motherboard to boot up somehow and so shutting down
completely was impossible without forcing it. In my bios I guess I had
something set to "wake up computer when sound card or PCI slot is
active." And so it would keep booting up the machine as long as that
sound card was in there. You might have a waking-up problem like I did
and this is entirely hardware related. Some motherboards give you a list
of devices that the computer can use to power-on with ranging from
keyboards to other things. I don't know if that helped, but i hope its
given you some leads on how to solve your issue.
