Installing a program doesn't initiate a system restore creation. It
was something else on your system doing that. Manually creating a
restore point might take 20 seconds total.

Mmmh, different times here... very different. And i am sure some kind of
backup is made when i installa something (with restore ON) probably i have
problems OR a much slower machine than yours!!

Just for example, i've just installed the java virtual machine and restore
has created a 700MB file in c:\system volume information !!!!
this is not acceptable!!!

My machine is home-built and wasn't cutting-edge when I built it two
years ago.

Vista doesn't make backups of anything unless you tell it to.

You won't be convinced of this, so I'll stop trying. I am SURE that
your webcam problem would have been fixed if you had a restore point
that preceded the problem.

Your claim that "ppl" told you system restore won't cure an error 39
was either false, or they have no clue.

Did you try to install the LifeCam software from Microsoft website
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/do.../default.mspx? That should
re-install the driver for VX1000.
