New hardware found wizard issue

I've been having a problem for a few days now that everytime I boot the new hardware found wizard comes up for all of my USB devices. They've been working for the past few weeks with no problems but for some reason it's screwed up now.

The worst part is that the wizard pops up multiple times for each device (roughly 5). Right now I've just got my Mouse and Keyboard (both MS brand) connected so I get this wizard about 10 times.

If I go through the steps to install the hardware it fails, but the devices still work. If I choose to never get the message again the devices stops working until I reboot and get the messages again.

Not sure if it's just a general USB issue or what. I also cannot install my IPod nano either.

My system:
Vista Enterprise x64
Intel Quadcore 2.4ghz
8GB RAM
Mouse: MS Comfort Optical 3000
Keyboard: MS Natural Ergonomic 4000

I've seen the hotfix available for the "failed to install" issue with the hardware wizard but when tryng to install that hotfix i get the message that the update does not apply to my system. I did quadruple check to make sure I ran the one for x64 and on that not with the ipod i did make sure I ran "itunes64setup" for itunes 7.6 (the latest version), and i did install the latest versions of IntelliPoint and IntelliType for vista 64 (actually uninstalled and reinstalled these 5 times).

So a few days ago when investigating why i couldn't get my iPod installed I found a few posts mentioning that "USBSTOR.INF" was missing from "C:\windows\inf". That poster was able to find the file in "C:\windows\system32\filerepositiory". There were several folders in there that had the inf file and pnf file as well, he took the most recent one and copied that to "C:\windows\inf" and from there on he was able to install his ipod.

I noticed the same thing and copied the inf over but that did not help me so i ignored it. Just a little while ago I noticed another poster mention that he was missing "msmouse.inf" was missing as well. I noticed the same thing and wondered how many other files were missing. So I wrote a small program that scanned through "c:\windows\system32\filerepository" and gathered the latest inf and pnf files and copied all of them over to "c:\windows\inf". For good measure i did gathered the most recent ".sys" files as well and copied those to "C:\windows\system32\drivers".

I rebooted and voola, I didn't have the issue anymore with the new hardware wizard and i was able to install my ipod as well.
