usb ports don't work

my usb ports have resently stoped working, devices such as ipods and mice do
not work, but work perfectly on my dads computer. the problem ocured when i
pluged in my camera for the first time which might have changed my settings.

i am using a laptop

Did you reboot your computer? That can fix the problem.

I have had similiar problems with USB devices. One solutioin that
seemed to work was to shutdown the computer, and shutoff (or unplut)
the power so the motherboard is not getting any power. Wait a few
minutes and reconnect the power and bootup the computer.
