stand-by function

I recently had to wipe my hard drive and reinstall my XP operating
system. But I can't seem to get my laptop to function properly. It
just doesn't have the same crisp look that it did before when I bought
it. Plus, when I got to the "Turn Off" mode I cannot access "Stand-
by" which is a telltale sign that something's not right with my Dell
laptop. Any help would be great?!

Run sfc /scannow.
