I am using a Realtek RTL8111B network adapter and it worked fine under Windows XP. In the same hardware system, but under Windows Vista Home
Premium 64 (a new, 'clean' installation) I can not install the driver, system returns an error message:

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it

Realtek 8111 Gigabit Ethernet NIC

The system cannot find the file specified."

What file?? I have downloaded latest (signed!) drivers from Realtek website and in the
installation directory I have following files:

netrtx64.cat
netrtx64.INF
rtlh64.sys

Neither automatic, nor manual installation does not work, I am receiving the same error message and the adapter does not work. What else can I do? Something is wrong in the INF file?

Try using the Auto installation download (Version 6.190)(the inf file does
appear to be for your NIC model), found here:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...wnloads=tr ue

And remove the present driver in Device Manger before installation (if there
is one). Windows might jump in and install something (Found new
Hardware...), but don't allow it if given the option. If not, it should be
ok anyway. The new installer should remove whatever previous drive is shown
in Device Manger.
