RE: DVD and CD not recognised
I had a similar issue - I had two Sony Drives on the same cable and one would
work, then the other, then they would have a dance and leave the room.
Might I suggest you try checking that the physical jumper on the DVD drive
is set to Master, and the CD-ROM to slave - my new motherboard / vista /
somebody seems to be a lot fussier about that than XP did - and if that
doesn't work, try unplugging one or the other drive and rebooting and seeing
if it picks one or the other up then. If that last bit works, you may have
to put one of the drives on one of the ribbon cables, and the other on the
other.
And of course - one other simple thing - does the CD ROM / DVD drive appear
in the BIOS setup screens way before Vista even boots up? if it doesn't,
it's def not a Vista issue and is def a hardware one...
