Audio recording

I have Vista and have downloaded an WMA/MP3 audio recorder. I cannot figure
out how to record an audio file or a radio station with the sound turned all
the way down. I think it has something to do with my sound card or my
speakers. I was able to record a file with the sound turned down on an XP run
computer. Suggestions......
