Printer keeps re-installing itself

Hi,
I have a HP PSC 1315 all-in-one printer/scanner hooked up to my desktop,
with drivers already installed.

I never turn my printer on until I get ready to do a print job, or scan
something.

Whenever I'm using my PC, then turn my printer on, the printer software
re-installs itself....everytime (it shows the "installing software" icon in
the tray. And, when it does this, I end up with a new copy of the printer in
the printer folder, followed by "copy 1", "copy 2", etc.

It also resets the default printer to the most recent copy.

This is driving me nuts...how can I stop it? (copy 1)
