Microsoft webcam VX600 has horrible quality image

Isn't a 1.3mp webcam supposed to give decent quality? I installed one
the other day and the resulting image is very noisy (grainy).

Are you using full screen display? What is the resolution of your monitor?
What is your Zoom setting? The higher the setting the grainy the image will
get since is has hardware zoom.

My monitor is 1680x1050 and I am using a window and not full screen. In
my control panel for zoom the buttons are greyed out even though it says
zoom right on the lens. I didn't buy this webcam , it was given to me so
know very little about it. That was on XP so maybe I will install it to
Vista and see if the zoom buttons work there or not.
