Alternative for Windows Media Center using Vista?

Hi,

I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Vista. Unfortunately the Windows
Media Center on my Vaio (VGC-RA828G) is not recognizing the factory installed
Tuner card (Giga Pocket® MPEG2 Realtime Encoder/Decoder board with TV Tuner).
I called Microsoft and they tell me I have to go to Sony. I called Sony and
they tell me to uninstall Vista.

So my questions is... Is there some other (preferably free) DVR software
that I can now use on my newly Vista installed Vaio machine that will also
work with my Tuner card (Giga Pocket® MPEG2 Realtime Encoder/Decoder board
with TV Tuner)?

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!

In my own case, the live tv works fine (the cable tv part) .. i have yet to get the analog part (my M9350F HP) has a dual tuner. 1 analog 1 digital.

But, there is a lot of trialware b.s. that I would love to delete.

I have a M9350F Hp which is Vitsa 64... and I have no intention of downgrading to XP or going vista 32.

Per the above fact that most of the 'extras' dont work per them being 32bit only... means that fo rme WMC is a substandard product.

I am considering uninstalling WMC and getting WINtv from Haug (the card is a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1800

Reality is WMC has way too much junk to be even worth using even if it was 100% ok... Im wondering also what is the best alternative to WMC.

Im initially leaning toward what Hauppauge would likley recommend.


Alternatively, I wonder how to remove items that I wouold never ever install/or even try out... such as most of the 'showcase' items..
Or even some items elsewhere.

I already relize the games, etc can be removed.. I would never use WMC to play any games and consider that a wrongly considered addition to WMC.

WMC should be all about viewing content (be it moves,live TV,recordings, radio...etc.... Games are not part of that.
