Just wanted to pass on a solution to a problem I was having
Problem: I have a desktop with dual monitors. A Gateway FPD2185 LCD as
primary and SynMaster 730B as secondary (extended). A Radeon 9800pro is the
video card. After installing Vista the main monitor would blink on and off
while at the logon screen. After logging ( moving the mouse and typing
in-between monitor flashes) the monitor was pretty stable ( Note- I’m running
the ATI Catalyst software – Vista version). However I did have some problems
if a widow edge happened to fall on the screen edge of the main monitor,
again main monitor would go blank. Oh yeah.. the main monitor is on the high
speed DVI connection while the SynMaster is on the Analog port
Solution: Googled and found a solution ( would like to thank the many folks
out there that posted solutions… you saved my sanity) The driver for both
monitors was the generic PnP driver, So I changed the primary monitor driver
to a digital monitor. No more flashing screen at boot up or when a window
scrolls to an edge. Details for procedures are: I went into device manager,
selected the primary monitor (1st one in the list), select properties, update
driver, browse my computer, let me pick from a list…, (uncheck compatible
hardware) and selected a Digital Flat Panel (1600x1200 60hz). My specific
monitor or native format was not an option. Hope this helps
