Can't get external hard drive to work

Hi guys, I'm new here and my computer knowledge is so so, please bear with me. I normally use those 'pre-built' external drives, and those I have NO problems with.

Decided to do something new and make my own setup, so I bought these:
Thermaltake Dock
Newegg.com - Thermaltake BlacX N0028USU External Hard Drive SATA Enclosure Docking Station 2.5" & 3.5" USB 2.0

WD Caviar Green 1TB
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EARS 1TB 5400 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Installed everything and was smooth, followed the instructions here
How to partition and format a WD drive on Windows (7, Vista, XP, 2000) and Mac OSX

My main problem is that after I partition and set the volume on my drive under 'Drive Management', it keeps giving me the error that format is incomplete. No matter what I do under the volume window, it keeps giving me that format incomplete error.

Any ideas, I'm this close to returning it and just getting a 'prebuilt' one
