Is there a local computer repair shop near you with a good reputation?
A good shop will be able to check if this is a fault with the operating
system or with the hardware. If it's the hardware, if the drive itself is
faulty, they'll probably be able to get and fit one for you cheaper than
returning it to HP outside warranty.
If you're sure its a hardware fault, and you don't need the DVD drive when
on the move, and only use it at home, a cheaper option still might be to buy
an external DVD drive that plugs into the computer through USB or whatever.
