Internet connection stops working every few days
Hi,
I am using Windows Vista Ultimate. My Internet connection stops working
every few days. When this happens, I cannot browse any sites. I am not using
any firewall except Windows Defender. I am connected to the Internet through
a router. I also have another PC connected to this router running XP and that
works fine.
I want to mention that if I have a P2P such as DC++ software open, the
transfer (download/upload) does not stop. So basically the internet
connection exists, but I cannot browse any sites. Restarting the PC fixes
this. Anyone knows what causes this?
Thank you,
Marin Micoriciu

you have to impose upload limits on the Direct Connect program.
set it for half of your upload speed

Re: Internet connection stops working every few days
Thanks for you reply! Unfortunately I already tried that. In fact, I closed
the Direct Connect program but nothing. I use FTP a lot. When I try to ftp to
a server, I get an errror like "Connect failed". Only a reboot fixes this.
Any more ideas? :/
Thank you,
Marin

Don't no... what usualy happens is that P2P programs use all the upload
bandwich, and the upload is generaly the week spot of your connections.
if that is not the problem then we can only especulate...
when you close the DC program, does the transfers stop, or they keep
running?
does this only happens when you are running DC?

Re: Internet connection stops working every few days
Hello!
I have the same problem with Vista Ultimate x86. Since now, I couldn't
find any answer. You don't need a P2P program running to have this to
happen. You can only start browsing like normal and after a while the
internet connection can stop. It's really annoying to restart your
computer everytime you need to surf the net...
Any help will be very appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Are we talking a wireless network or wired?
Some wireless cards seem to be a bit defective so it might be hardware,
if not wireless then it may be a driver problem with your card or the
device built into the motherboard, in which case have you checked for
the latest drivers at that manufacturer's website?
It may help to mention the motherboard / network card model because
someone with the same hardware might recognize a problem.

No, we are talking about wired connection. I've tried 4 different
network cards but I had the same result!
All I can think now is that Microsoft managed to insert another shitty
shield against pirating or something like that...
Abit AN8 Ultra 939, D-Link DFE-528TX Network Card.

Re: Internet connection stops working every few days
try a different PCI slot or a USB adapter.
and go into properties for the NIC and turn off the 'allow windows to turn
this device off to save power' setting

I guess, I noticed the same issue with my (legal) Vista Ultimate x86.
Sometimes it happens that the network connection fails.
However, I noticed some special things:
* It seems that only new connections are blocked. So, for example, when I
open a website, or try to open a new FTP connection.
* Existing connections (for example: IRC, ...) keeps working.
* On this PC, Internet Connection Sharing is enabled. So behind this PC,
there are some other PC's . The strange thing is, when I can't surf the
internet anymore, It's possible to do that on one of the pc's behind this
computer.
