Post-RTM Vista Updates/Fixes: Definitive List?
I'm desperately trying to understand how to obtain a complete list of all
known hotfixes, updates, roll-up updates, patches, security updates, critical
updates, OS updates -- in effect, ANY update for Windows Vista RTM by
Microsoft since launch.

The Windows Catalog (BETA) has a search function, but I can't quite
understand how to use it. I cannot filter and it's extremely frustrating.

Does Microsoft product a COMPLETE, UP-TO-DATE list of Fixes for Vista? If
so, where? If it is the catalog (mentioned previously), then can someone
please explain how to do a proper query? It's just not evident how to do
this.

Many thanks...

Re: Post-RTM Vista Updates/Fixes: Definitive List?
all will be included in SP1...

Windows update installs stuff according to your system...
in other words you may install something that will break your system if you
do not need it..

that's why IT people advise against those unofficial service packs (for
example sp3 for xp) unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Perhaps there is an unofficial Vista SP1 out that will have all the fixes
and updates.. but beware!

The closest I could get from Microsoft is the following:

http://support.microsoft.com/search/...32&query=kbqfe

That will list all KB articles for Windows Vista that refer to some sort
of fix.

Independent of Microsoft you can find a list of patches available at
http://www.autopatcher.com/autopatcher-vista/. Note that I do not
recommend you download anything from this site.

RE: Post-RTM Vista Updates/Fixes: Definitive List?

To be clear, I'm not trying to assemble a 'rogue' Service Pack. We will
undoubtedly wait until the Official Service Pack from Microsoft ships.

However, in the interim, I'm trying to download all applicable fixes,
updates, and hotfixes (where applicable, available) to Vista. The problem
I'm having, is:

* Where to find all these fixes on Microsoft's site. It appears the
Microsoft UPDATE CATALOG is Beta and is, in fact, non-searchable with any
kind of definitive filtering.

If you go to Windows Update in Control Panel and set it download updates but
choose whether to install them, it will ultimately, produce a list of
everything available for that PC and give you an option to view the entire
list. Would that suffice?

Well, let's try this then. I'm continually finding myself not thinking in
the new VISTA-esque mindset, which is **do something for a user, unless they
can do something bad, then restrict them** -- a nice departure from the
prepubescent 95's decision to allow everything including hardware access
until now, which probably has been consistent if we review it.

But I digress. The instant case would embody a picture of a truely-trying
OS manufacturer making an intelligent decision, which albeit late, is surely
welcome.

I shall try to utilize my new 'feature' in the true sense, immediately, and
report back to the group on the status and whether the experiment in common
sense actually pays off.

Thanks for the tip.
