Windows Vista Ultimate Printer Spooler
OK, I have read and could not find the answer. I have read in run net stop
and net start... I have done it the other way in Services. Restarted it
there.

Here is my problem:

When I click on "Add Printer" I get this error "Local spooler is not
running" Although I have started, restarted and started again. Restarted my
computer to see if it would stay on.

Every time I click "add printer" it shuts off.

I am going crazy here. I used my printer almost on a daily basis. Is there
any other solution to this issue other than starting on the run command or
Services properties.

PLEASE HELP ME! i AM NOT SAVY WITH COMPUTER TECH WORDS, so an easy
explanation will do. Oh, I also went to the site, that the gentleman has
suggesdted, nothing there helps me either.

RE: Windows Vista Ultimate Printer Spooler
The way I have always added a printer to a single computer. is to follow the
manufacturers instructions which is to hook the printer up, and install the
program(drivers) from the CD, or download them from their website.

If you are running 2 or more computers on a LAN, and the printer that you
want to connect to is attached to another computer, in Vista got to Network>
Network Sharing> Add Network Device, and alter the sharing settings.

RE: Windows Vista Ultimate Printer Spooler
No other printers, no other computer. Under printer there is nothing. I
called HP, I have 7310 and they went thru all the installing instructions.
But everytime it would just about finish it would get an error in regards to
spooler. Again, everytime I start it is stops when I add printer.

Today, I took myself and my son to Universal studies. Paid online and
couldn't print my tickets. Work is Monday and will need printer. Is there
no one at Microsoft who answers these forums to give answers??

Thanks anyway for you help. I do appreicate it.

This is not the way to do it with a USB connected printer if it uses
manufacturer's software or a driver that is part of Windows already. Windows
Found New Hardware will fight with the manufacturer's software installation
procedure.

Re: Windows Vista Ultimate Printer Spooler
Again, I thank you for your suggestions. I have also tried that, but mid way
it stops because the spooler is stopping. I can not install. I was on the
phone with HP for almost an hour. They try to figure out why the spooler
kept stopping. They couldn't and at the end said there was nothing else they
could do for me. That it was a Windows error and I needed to deal with
Microsoft.

Anybody else??

Re: Windows Vista Ultimate Printer Spooler
I certainly see a lot of reports of problems with the spooler -- but
would that not be after the printer and software are installed?

I don't really understand that -- I don't think I've ever seen this
happen during installation of the printer software.

But try turning off the Print Spooler:

START / Settings / Control Panel

I use Classic Mode and can't tell you where to find things with the
VISTA mode so click on Classic Mode on the left and then

Administrative Tools / Computer management / Services &
Applications / Services

Scroll down to Print Spooler and double click on that entry.

Select Start up type: in the middle of the first TAB and make a note of
the setting (default is Automtic) and change it to Disabled and OK your
way back out and see what happens.

If everything is OK and the printing works (although I thought this was
happening during installation) then either leave it like that although
printing and return to computing may be slow OR change the setting to
Manual which, if I remember correctly, means that the Spooler will only
start up when you call for printing and not when you start the
computer.

Let us know what happens.

Re: Windows Vista Ultimate Printer Spooler
In the Start Menu's Start Search box, type "services.msc" (without quotes),
and then right-click services.msc, in the Results List, and choose Run as
Administrator. In Services, double-click Print Spooler, and make sure, on
the General tab, that the startup type is set to Automatic (I know, Duh).
On the Log On tab, make sure that "Local System account" is chosen, and that
"Allow service to interact with desktop" is checked. Close Services.

Try your Intall file, by right-clicking on HPOfficejet7310Setup.exe,
or whatever it's called, choosing Run as
Administrator.
