Updates keep failing

The latest Vista updates keep failing to install. Previous updates haven't
had a problem. There is more than enough space on the drive for the updates.

Is there a way to install the udpates manually? Or other work around?

Re: Updates keep failing
Updates do not fail to arrive in Vista its only that in this system you do
not see them arrive. Go to Control Panel/Updates as you might have done in
XP before. Here you can set automatic updates and see the history of those
that have arrived.

Re: Updates keep failing
Try de-selecting all but one, and install each one at a time. Posters have
noted a problem with one update disallowing the others, but are noting
different KB's as the culprit (it's usually the update for .Net Framework
for 1.1).

Re: Updates keep failing

Thanks to all one replied. It seems like the oldest tricks are the best
tricks. XP Pro updates would warn if there was a conflict. I guess Vista is
a different beast.

The 7/10/07 update had two updates checked and the rest unchecked. KB936357
and KB935807 were checked. These were the two that failed. If I tried to
individually update them, they would still fail.

Just now, I went ahead and updated the rest of the other updates
individually. The installs succeeded. I then went back and installed
KB936357 - and this time it installed. KB935807 was the last and would not
install.

Re: Updates keep failing
Thanks for the update on Updates. Quoting a forum poster on another site:

"I experienced the same problem on 2 out of 3 of my computers. If you (1)
fully shut down after installation instead of restarting, or (2) repeat the
update process a few times, it will eventually take. I'm not sure if one of
those approaches is better than the other, but one worked with each of my
patching problems."

You could try the standalone installer for KB935807 (there is a caveat,
however, as some are reporting that Windows Update may still come up saying
you need to install the update, even though you installed it successfully
through the standalone download):

So for now, I guess it's a pick-your-poison situation.

Re: Updates keep failing
No downloaded update works until you restart the computer because it is not
in memory for that session.

Re: Updates keep failing
Of course, and that is what the system is trying to do, but the system
performs a second re-boot to roll back the update since it fails.

I tried everything for KB936357 and it will not install.
