NOD32 or Avast?
Hi all,
I'm runnint Vista32 Ultimate edition.
I've been a Norton user for over 15 years; but have had enough of it's
bloated foot print. I'd rather get a virus then deal with the type of
performance degredation Norton is causing.

Anyway, I've been looking at NOD32 and Avast and would like some advice from
all of you who have used either.

Thanks

I've used both and prefer NOD32. Avast is nice in that it is free, but
NOD32 has in my opinion a smaller footprint, better support, and better
protection.

Re: NOD32 or Avast?
NOD32, unless cost is a primary concern ( multiple PCs ) then Avast
would probably be adequate. NOD32 is now my preferred AV for
both Vista and XP. A program that both excels at what it does and is
almost negligible on system performance. McAfee/Symantec better
straighten up their act or this company (ESET) is going to quickly take
away their business. NOD32 proves you can write excellent/effective
code and not cripple the computer by running it. Also doesn't concern
itself with Activation schemas as you have a username/password to
install on your PC (for Licensing).

I had a play with Avast Free for a month or so and it drove me up the wall,
annoying spinning tray icon on by default, annoying popup saying its updated
itself and so on. AVG Free is better in my opinion, it has a big annoying
thing saying its updated itself but its much less keen on animating icons
and stuff.

So if somebody can stand all of that it might be worth a shot.

Using the trial of NOD32 there's an option to run it silently, no animated
icon, no popups saying its updated itself. Much better IMO.

None of them have come across any viruses so I'm unable to shed any light on
how effective they are at doing their job. Just how much they're in my way
while I'm doing my stuff.

I haven't used Avast in Vista but I have several customers who use it in XP.
I have used Nod32 in both XP and Vista. I much prefer Nod32.
