You jest but my mates wife wouldn't buy an Acer laptop because it has a
built-in webcam and she says she often uses her laptop whilst in various
stages of dress (or undress)......it's like...people have forgotten about

Not any software, just Vista itself. When you go to get updates and bug
fixes,
it will check to make sure you're running a legal copy of Vista. It doesn't
check
3rd party apps and data.

Except for Office, and in the future probably other MS apps (but
that's not 3rd party).
