desk top ticker
I have just upgraded to windows Vista and I am unable to display my ticker
that I had on my XP desktop and when I go to change my Vista desktop there
is no area that allows me to 'customise' my desk top as there is with XP.

Is it possible to have Vista and a HTML ticker?

Debb

Not that I am aware that it is natively in Vista. Most probably there is some 3rd party ones but I do not know of any

Try a search with Google or similar and see if you can come up with one to your liking if available for Vista

Hi Debb,

It sounds like you were using a feature of Windows XP called "Active
Desktop". This feature allowed you to display HTML controls on your desktop.

Active Desktop originated back in Windows 95 days, when thinking about
security was pretty elementary. Active Desktop presented many security
loopholes. It was impossible to make Active Desktop sufficiently secure to
meet Vista standards. So in Vista, the Active Desktop feature has been
discontinued.

However Vista also introduces the new "Sidebar" feature. You can do may of
the same things using Sidenbar, that you could do before using Active
Desktop.

There are numerous stock ticker gadgets available for Windows Sidebar, as
well as many other useful gadgets. See here:

Hope it helps,

Hi Peter and Andrew,

Thank you both for your information, it was very helpful. I will keep an
eye out for the ticker I want on the sidebar options.

Cheers!

What does the "ticker" do?
