happening. I need to open the prot configuration to check the IP
address. The SMC100 port should have an IP address 192.168.2.2 to
which all print job from this machine will be sent. Strangely, if I
use the network cable connection to the wirelss router then I can
print. I just cannot print through wirless connection. Thanks for
your help.
I had exactly the same problem with the SMC 7004ABR and have just found a solution.
The problem is that the printing utility supplied by SMC is not compatable with Vista. Fortunately, since the router network printing feature is based on lpd, it can be configured manually in Vista following these steps:
In Printer properties, you need to go to the Ports section and add a new Standard TCP/IP Port (not the SMC port type). Please provide your router IP address as both printer name/address and port name. Vista will try to autoconfigure the port, but it will of course fail, so you will need to modify some settings manually. For device type, you must select "Custom" and then change Settings as follows: Protocol must be set to LPR, and queue name must be lpt1 (this is fixed for this SMC router).
Depending on your printer, you may need to take an extra step. For instance, I'm sharing a Brother HL-5130 laser printer, which uses its own print processor. As a result, I only got completely blank pages. So you may need to change the print processor as well. This can be done in the Printer properties, within the section Advanced options, by selecting Print processor... There you must choose WinPrint as print processor and RAW as data type.
I hope this helps!
