How to uninstall Windows Vista components

I work everyday with windows vista, but as I did with WinXP, there are
some components that comes after installing that I no longer or never
used so I used the "Add/Remove programs" option in WinXP to uninstall
some of those components.

I'd like to do the same on Windows Vista but I did not found the way.
I'd like to uninstall/remove some components like Windows Media Center
or PhotoGallery or Windows Movie Maker that I will never use.

Is there any way to remove this components?

You cannot uninstall Vista's features, but you can turn them off. Go to

There's "vlite", but afaik it would mean you would have to create a
pared-down dvd iso image and install again from scratch.

Hello calamar,

If you don't find it via programs and features, turn windows features on
or off i think you will have no safe way without playing around in the system
what i strongly recommend NOT to do. Maybe you can disable some services
to stop the running of some programs.

I tried that option but there's no way to uninstall some features or
"on install" apps like some I said before (Windows Media Center, Photo
Gallery, Windows Movie Maker, Backup utility, Sincro. center, Windows
Sidebar, ....).

Any other way?

The 3 programs you mentioned, Media Center,PhotoGallery, and Movie Maker
cannot be uninstalled or disabled. They are part of the OS.

You can simply not run them. Remove the shortcuts for these programs from
the Start Menu or wherever else they may exist.

I find it SAD and PATHETIC that Microsoft doesn't allow you to truly
customize Vista by forcing users to have standard software that they will
never use on their system. At least with Apple you can remove the software
and with Linux you can customize into another Operating System.

The future of Microsoft Operating Systems look like a 3rd World autocratic /
totalitarian government; we can do no wrong!
