"Directory name Invalid
Hi all
Running Vista Ultimate
Am unable to install any program
This has just started
When I ok the usual alert "do you want to run this file" by clicking "Run"
I get an error that states the path of the file eg C:\Downloaded
software]*.exe and then the line "The directory name is invlaid " you go OK
and it dumps you out . No changes will allow it or any other downloaded
software to run . I have checked security and priveledges ever which way to
NO avail .

Any ideas ??

Graham

Re: Directory name Invalid
I posted probably the same problem on the 22 feb and found no solution.
The problem disappeared within some days, but not for all files at once.
So probably you just have to be patient ;-)
I suspect it is a problem of UAC. Do your files require elevation (do they
have the small "Vista security shield" on thier icon?)

Re: Directory name Invalid
Thanks for your reply

YES the *.exe files in question all have the tiny Vista Sheild on them .

Seems an odd situation to think the situation will change over time ??

will monitor them and keep searching

Thanks again

Re: Directory name Invalid
As a followup I investigated your idea of it being related to UAC and you
were correct .
Turn off UAC [and put up with pesky reminders to turn it back on ] and
bingo errors went away and I could now install the software .

Thanks for your assistance
cheers
Doc
