Your opinion on Vista

Ok, just checking to see everyone's opinion of Vista. Do you think it's
the best thing ever? Or do you think it's another Windows ME in
preparation of the real thing 2 years from now?

Just looking to hear what everyone thinks.

Everyone? You could never read all the responses if even everyone in this
group responded.

But, it has its pluses and its minuses. I use it every day for most things
I do on the PC. I don't use it for anything multi-media related except for
development purposes.

I've used Vista 64 bit home premium for two weeks now, and I love
Vista. I did build a new system, so it was a clean install, not an
upgrade. From what I've read, it seems that those that have problems
with Vista are upgrading. The problems I have had are compatiblity
issues, which I'm sure are because I use the 64 bit version. I'm sure
they'll be worked out soon. Personally, I agree with the group that
says not to upgrade to Vista, but get it with a new computer. I chose
Vista rather than XP, since I'm sure I'd be upgrading to Vista
eventually anyway.
Some of the criticisms of Vista I've read on here don't seem valid to
me. For example, it uses a lot of hard drive space. True, after I
installed Vista, I checked my hard drive space, and 9 GB was used.
This is quite a bit, but I think the smallest hard drive sold today is
80 GB, so that is really not a significant number.
Vista does use a lot of resources, but computers have so many
resources that this is really not a problem. Twelve years ago, my
first computer had a 250 mb hard drive and 4 mb RAM, and cost $2,000.
Now, for a third that price, I get about 500 times that. Since the
resources are there, why not use them to make the computer more
powerful and useful?
What I like about Vista:
1. The aero not only looks nice but is very useful.
2. It's very inclusive, other than a virus scan, it has all the
utilities that you'll need.
3. Search is very easy.
4. It's very fast. But, I have to admit that my last computer was a
Windows 98 with a Pentium III 500mz, so anything is fast by
comparison.
Well, that should do it for now, I'm sure I can think of more good
things about Vista. I just get tired of hearing how Vista is the tool
of Satan on here. It's not.

Opinions matter little. Those with -working- drivers for all their HW and no
incompatible SW, tend to like Vista. Those without -working- drivers for all
their HW and/or who own incompatible software, tend to dislike Vista
intensely.

I happen to be one of the former group. My opinion means squat to those who
belong to the latter group. C'est la vie.
