Cannot Pass Microsoft Office Genuine Advantage Vaildation
I recently purchased a NEW multimedia Gateway Vista model GM5407E. It came
with Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 Trial version. I have purchased,
installed and registered Microsoft Office PROFESSIONAL 2007, that cost me
$$$. It works well. However, when I go to download templates for my use,
Microsoft Office Genuine Advantage reports that my PC has a copy of Microsoft
Office Home and Student 2007 that is not valid. (BTW, MS Office 2003 has
never been installed on this PC.)

Although I have uninstalled Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007, it still
shows as an installed program in my Control Panel, although none of its
components show in START\Programs any longer. Only the Microsoft Office
PROFESSIONAL 2007 programs are in START/Programs.

When I try to UNINSTALL Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 from the
Control Panel, I get a message that the installation files are corrupted and
that I need to reinstall from the original media source. I do not have the
original media source for the trial software, (and I don't want to reinstall
it either.) I just want to DOWNLOAD the templates that I need!

I tried a fix posted by Carey Frisch [MVP], but it did not help the situation:

"1. Click Start, click Run, type:
%AllUsersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data
and then click OK.
2. Right-click the Opa12.dat file, and then click Delete.
Important: Do not delete the opa12.bak file.
3. Close the folder.
4. Start a 2007 Office program to start the 2007 Office Activation Wizard."

The files that remain showing in
%AllUsersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data
are 89446.bpc, opa11.dat, OPA12.BAK and opa12.dat

Also, Uniblue's RegistryBooster reports no registry errors.

However, I suspect that I may need to delete certain Registry entries.
PLEASE HELP!
-Steve

Run the Issues feature in Crap Cleaner. Get it free at www.ccleaner.com/
Use the Clean Up feature first.

Re: Cannot Pass Microsoft Office Genuine Advantage Vaildation
Shut down Internet Explorer. Then restart IE with administrator privileges.
Then go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/default.aspx and click on
start diagnostics.

Run both Vista and Office checks. When once you have validated WGA under
administrator privileges you will have no other problems - hopefully!

Re: Cannot Pass Microsoft Office Genuine Advantage Vaildation
Dear Richard,

Tried all the suggestions and the directions exactly. Ran CCleaner, too,
through all routines. I validated WGA under administrator privileges, but
all to NO AVAIL. Problem remains as before. System passes Vista
verification, and then fails on Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. The
only thing that I haven't yet done is to install RedHat or Ubuntu. PLEASE
HELP!

Actually you didn't try everything. According to your post you don't want to
try the re install un install option. Why ? is beyond me . Instead you keep
looking for some magic cure. Freak'en re download the trail and reinstall it
and then remove it properly.

You may have to spend an hour uninstalling and re installing the trail and
the pro versions but then you're done why keep wasting time?
