Genuine Product?
I bought a laptop about two weeks ago and it came with windows vista, and
within a week, I restarted my computer one morning, and it came up with a
pop-up tellin me that my vista package is not genuine. It gave me three
options and I did all three. One of the options just gave me the internet,
and no icons, or anything and when I closed out of the internet it
automatically logged me off. I even took it to circuit city, the place where
I bought it, and the only told me to do the automated phone system. I did
that and it gave me my icons and stuff back, and everything runs smoothly,
but the only thing that is still wrong is that it claims that my vista
product is not genuine.
Here's what it says:
Windows Vista (TM)
Build 6000
This copy of Windows Vista is not genuine.

I don't know what to do now. Can anyone help me?!

Re: Genuine Product?
Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/def...displaylang=en and
click on "Validate Windows". Afterward, restart your computer.

circuit city has a 30 day return policy, I would return as soon as
possible . when the manager ask why tell him . If he fixes it i would
demand a credit for your troubles if not go somewheres else.

Re: Genuine Product?
If the laptop came pre-installed with Vista that who knows the product key
has been used on several other computers. Make sure that you have the
genuine installation DVD with product key, that is the first thing you need
to ensure. Then try to activate online like mentioned by Carey and if you
still cannot activate or it still says that you do not have a genuine
Windows Vista I would go back to the shop and demand that they solve this.

The number of PCs that come with those is infinitesimally small. You
might get a Restore to Factory condition disk or a partition on the
hard drive but "genuine installation DVD" not B***** likely -- unless
you get something from a small custom builder.

Re: Genuine Product?
They should still come with the Genuine Windows logo whether this is a
restore CD or not. I would never buy a PC that comes with some obscure copy
on a DVD-R of Vista and have me pay for that.

I agree completely but you said "genuine installation DVD" and those
are even more rare than All in one printers that worked when VISTA was
launched <g>
