I'm taking a poll - Are you running with UAC or have you disabled UAC?

I'll admit there are more mouse clicks to get where you are going but
it is a safety net for me. I have been computing for about 15 years
and I do have a few ocassions over the years I would have been saved
from a thoughtless mouse click had that feature been there.

UAC enabled... but I'm a developer and I have to get my software working
with UAC as the majority of the corporate desktops that my product will
deploy to will probably have UAC enabled.

I keep UAC active, so Program Files is not writable to programs, IE7 runs in
Protected Mode, etc, but I have disabled most of the prompts, so I only get
ones that are of a higher level. I used this setting in secpol.msc:

Right now I have it disabled, because I can't get our application installed
with it enabled.

BTW, who decides exactly what operations require elevated privileges? Is
there a list somewhere?

TBH it seems about the same. Apart from games such as Battlefield 2,
everything I run has been properly written as they should be, i.e don't
need to be an Administrator, so they don't ask.

Complain to whoever wrote it. Ask them to justify needing to be run as
Administrator.

Anything which makes system changes or requires elevated permissions to
run.

Enabled.
Once the installation and setup of programs and drivers finished, I rarely
see UAC.

Unfortunately UAC got a largely unfair reputation from the beta days.
"But it is a Beta" very much applies when it comes to UAC in the Vista Beta.
UAC continuously got better as the Beta progressed.
Earlier UAC was always coming up it seems for almost anything.
Now with RTM, UAC is far more refined, able to work properly and only shows
itself at appropriate times.

UAC behavior in any of the Betas is not a reasonable view of Vista.
If you have not tried UAC enabled with RTM or after you finished customizing
the computer, try it and see the difference.
