Linksys Router. Vista compatible?
I am trying to set up my new computer w/ the vista os to my wireless router,
however, I cannot connect both of my laptops at once. If the XP laptop is
online the internet will not work on the Vista computer, even though it shows
that it is connected. I called Linksys and they said that my router is not
compatible w/ Vista, however, it will connect when the XP computer is not
hooked up. Anyone have any insight?
Wireless Router #: BEFW1154 ver.4

You could have an ip address conflict. If both computers have the same ip
address the second one which is switched on cannot connect. Usually if this
happens though you get an IP conflict error.

Re: Linksys Router. Vista compatible?
Interesting,
What kind of router do you have? Model and firmware version.

Re: Linksys Router. Vista compatible?
Sounds like an IP conflict, If each one works on its own then they may be
conflicting when both are on.
Make sure your router is set with DHCP on and both computers are set to
aquire IP automaticly in the TCP/IP network settings.
You may have to reset your router as well.
My system sometimes wont let a computer back on unless I release all leases
and reaquire them.

Re: Linksys Router. Vista compatible?
If it was an IP conflict, you would get a warning in your system tray
notifying you of that within seconds.

Do you have your XP and Vista set to get an IP address from DHCP, and the
router configured to be a DHCP server, or are you using fixed IP addresses?
If the latter, make sure the machines are not assigned the same IP address,
and make sure neither machine is set to use the same IP address as the
router host.

Re: Linksys Router. Vista compatible?
Also, make sure the DHCP settings on the router are not configured with just
one address in the scope
Assuming you have not changed the default settings the IP of the router will
be 192.168.1.1 so try connecting to it using IE. By default the username
field is blank and password is admin. If you cannot connect do an ipconfig
from a command prompt on the XP machine and the default gateway will show
the router IP.

Re: Linksys Router. Vista compatible?
Thanks for all the input. I did get the IP conflict message actually. I will
make sure to check my settings and hopefully get this fixed
