My experience with registry cleanup programs is they would nicely get
rid of most of the crud in my registry and then add some more of their
own.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?

Re: Norton Utilities type app for x64 vista
Jassie, you are getting that error because the program that you are
installing is attempting to write to a protected area of the registry, to
which it does not have permission. The program that you are installing
most likely needs Administrator rights to install correctly. Right-click on
the installer and select Run As Administrator.

Norton Utilities lost their usefulness long ago. They were a waste in XP
too. Vista has the tools you need. If you want a fancy defragmenter GUI,
to watch the blocks shake and move then go with something like Raxco Perfect
Disk, or Diskeeper, but they are not needed. Registry cleaners are snake
oil remedies. Not needed in XP, nor, would I think, in Vista.
