Thanks for your suggestions. My ActiveX controls were fine, and even with
the lowest settings Flash wouldn't update through the Adobe website.
I did some more playing, and noticed that if I turned off proteced mode,
then the Adobe website could download and install the Flash update without
problems. Also, I noticed that any media being streamed from websites would
not play unless protected mode is off - and this was for websites using
Windows Media Player.
I don't like the idea of leaving protected mode off, but it seems I have
little choice.
Putting those sites in the trusted zone should work, since protected mode is
off, but those websites don't quite work the same - they forget media player
settings every time you return to the site.
Interesting. I'm sure MS don't want protected mode to stop these things from
working normally.
