Re: Error at 48% using Vista Easy Transfer
Had the same issue on a friends new PC. The files were being transferred to
the recovery partition of the new PC (D: drive) instead of C: and therefore
were running out of space. Ran out of time but will be looking into it again
tonight and will post what I find.

Error at 48% using Vista Easy Transfer
Hi, I receive repeatedly an error at 48% calculation of file size for
transfer. I have restarted both computers that are connected via LAN off my
router. There is no warning before this happens, repeatedly. An error report
is generated and sent off to Microsoft each time. I am baffled as I am using
all the "recommended settings". The source laptop is running XP SP2 with all
updates applied, whereas the target laptop is running Vista Basic Home. I
have spent may fruitless hours, always ending up with the same 48 % error.
Any help would be appreciated.

We haven't had many posts about WET yet, so there might not be much
experience base with problems. Here are a couple of article about using it,
their might be some tips in them.

They didn't post in the wrong forum WET is used to transfer files and
settings from a windows XP or 2000 computer to Vista, it is on the Vista
DVD, and it's run off the Vista DVD. It's part of the upgrade/migration
process. It belongs here.

microsoft.public.windows.vista.installation_setup would be another
appropriate group for it.

Re: Error at 48% using Vista Easy Transfer
Created the recovery DVD, formatted the partition since it was no longer
needed. Successfully ran the file transfer.

Re: Error at 48% using Vista Easy Transfer
A major leap of faith on those "answers" - between step 7 and 8 is where all
the problems occur, and that is where the program is supposed to be working:

7. Review the list that contains the files and the settings that you want to
migrate, and then click Start. To add or to remove files or settings from the
list, click Customize.

8. Click Close after Windows Easy Transfer has completed the migration of
files and settings to the destination computer.

Re: Error at 48% using Vista Easy Transfer
I think this might be what is happening to me and others.

Program documentation says C: drive is default target, though, so not sure
why this is happening.

Also, can you be a little more detailed about how to remedy this?

Thanks!

Re: Error at 48% using Vista Easy Transfer
After making your recovery DVD, go to Start, then do a right mouse click on
Computer, choose Manage in the drop down box. On the left side choose Disk
Management. Disk 0 will have 2 partitions. The left partition is where the
recovery files are. Mine was 6 Gig. Format that partition but do not give it
a drive letter. Run the File Transfer Wizard. As long as you have less data
then the space left on the empty partition you should be fine.
