AMD Athlon 64 / Cool'n Quiet related question
Hi everyone,
I am having trouble getting my Athlon 64 3400+ CPU to actually run at normal
speed under Vista Ulitmate. I have read to other posts on this topic and so
far have established that Cool'n Quiet will not work for me because my
motherboard does not provide the correct APCI information.

In principle I have no problem with this as I don't really care if Cool'n
Quiet is disabled. The problem is no matter what Power Settings I use Vista
only every runs the CPU at 800MHz and not 2200MHz. I have verified this using
many CPU tools and while running CPU intensive tasks like half life 2 etc...
Does anyone know how to make Vista run the CPU as the native speed?

Cheers,
Ismaan

ps. my system is a FS Amilo A1630 laptop, AMD Athlon 64 3400+, Uniwill
258KA0 motherboard, 1GB RAM.

Note: I have moved this question to the Vista Hardware and Devices group as I
realise that is a more approprite location.

Re: AMD Athlon 64 / Cool'n Quiet related question
Uninstall The AMD drivers
Reboot and enter the BIOS...Turn Cool'n Quiet off
While there check to make sure the CPU setting is correct.
Save and Exit

Re: AMD Athlon 64 / Cool'n Quiet related question
thanks for the quick info. i have a clean install of Vista and have not
installed the AMD drivers. my machine is a laptop and the bios has no
settings for cool'n quiet or for changing the CPU settings. there never
seemed to be a problem with XP x64 so I don't understand why Vista has a
problem. do you have any other ideas?

cheers.

Re: AMD Athlon 64 / Cool'n Quiet related question

I had the same problem with my Amilo A1630, and unfortunately
Fujitsu-Siemens aren't being very helpful by not supporting Windows
Vista. The solution is to upgrade to a BIOS that supports CPU power
management under Vista, which the latest one from FS doesn't...

Fortunately you can get an updated BIOS from Uniwell at this link:
http://www.uniwill.com/UserDownload/258KA0/258KA0.php

I flashed my BIOS with version 1.05 from that site, and now my A1630
runs Vista Ultimate at full speed. Also the CPU controls in Power
Options have magically appeared and my CPU performance score in Vista
has doubled, which is a nice bonus!

I hope this helps... I'd be interested to know if it works for you too.
