Re: Vista will not wake up from sleep mode

I have tried all the suggestions and my computer will not wake up from
sleep. Forced restarts are not a good option. I think the nice folks
at Microsoft Vista might eventually give us a fix but for now, I have
just set my power options to never go to sleep and I shut down at the
end of the day. At least my monitor powers down after 15 min. and
restarts with mouse movement. In retrospect, XP sure was nice!

Go to Advance Power Settings.
Set hard drive to turn off a minute or 2 before sleep.
Set Hybrid and Hibernate modes to "Off"
Under USB settings select "Disable"
Under Multimedia select "Allow ....."

RE: Vista will not wake up from sleep mode

I have a new Dell Inspiration 530 and was experiencing the same problem. I
Set the power options to never sleep, Hard drive never sleep etc. but in the
morning it was like trying to wake up my teenage son, no avail.

In one of the threads someone mentioned updating the bios. I went to the
dell site and downloaded and installed a newer update and now the problem
seems to be solved.

I haven't had time to experiment with the power settings to activate sleep
mode since I have updated bios.

Hope this helps

Re: Vista will not wake up from sleep mode

I'm having the same issues listed above with a 6-month old Dell
Inspirion. It doesn't happen every time, but about once a week I have
to do a hard boot to get the computer to wake up. It got worse this
morning, because now even a hard boot doesn't get the computer out of
sleep mode. Anyone have any ideas on this problem?

Re: Vista will not wake up from sleep mode

I have set my power options to never sleep. Until someone comes up with
a solution, this was my only option. I have talked with HP reps until I
am convinced that they do not yet have a solution. Microsoft seems to
be waiting on its customers to come up with a solution through these
forums. I have tried every suggestion and my sleep function continues
to put my computer to permanent sleep. A forced restart is the only way
to wake it up.

Re: Vista will not wake up from sleep mode
I have a brand new Gateway, only 3 days at home, and had a problem with sleep
mode and had to use the power button to close Windows (not the way to do
things!). Windows did not load properly, since it did not shut down properly,
and a black screen came up with the Safe Mode options, plus a Load Windows
Normally prompt, which I selected --- and it opened OK. This is alarming on
a NEW computer! I think I'll take everyone's advice and disable sleep mode,
but I'd rather not since I use my PC 4 or 5 times a day.

Yet another to join the club...I've got a home-built high-end computer that does not wake properly - black screen, keyboard and mouse unresponsive (even Num Lock). At the advice of a couple posts on this thread, I've turned off wake ability for the USB mouse; my keyboard is PS2. I also modified the advanced power settings - we'll see if that helps.

I have some reason to suspect hardware interaction - I dual-boot with Ubuntu Linux and I've had the same problem there. I may try to update my BIOS as well - any thoughts? I've emailed the motherboard manufacturer, but didn't get much for ideas.

Computer specs:
Motherboard: ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe
Processor: AMD Phenom quad-core (2.2 GHz)
Video card: EVGA e-GeForce 9600 GT
Power Supply: 700W Coolmax Green Power
RAM: 4 Gb PC6400 (2x2 Gb; Super-Talent)
Drives: 2x320 Gb hard drives (Hitachi), 2 Lite-on Lightscribe DVD burners
Operating systems: Windows Vista Home Premium, Ubuntu 8.04 (beta)

Sorry, I left out a detail - I've updated to SP1 (only got it through Windows update yesterday, 4/3/08) - still having the same problem after the update. Thanks for the thought, though!

A solution of sorts...
Hi folks,

I managed to find a fix for myself, although I don't know if it will be helpful to others. I played with some of the sleep settings in my BIOS and found that if I use only S1 sleep (which is a lighter sleep/higher energy usage mode than S3, the current standard), my computer resumes properly. I've only tried this a couple times so far, but it seems OK; before, I never got a proper resume.

For those who have factory-built computers: I highly advise you get tech support on the phone before you consider changing BIOS settings. Depending on your computer and BIOS, this may or may not be possible (and may not even be the problem). I knew this wasn't just a Vista glitch because I had the same error under Linux.

Good luck to the rest of you!
