Re: Windows Media Player 11- Vista

i have the same problem.

everything was working fine till earlier...

i went to play a mp3 and i got this message

'C:\Windows\system32\wmp.dll is either not designed to run on windows
or it contains a error. Try installing the program again using the
original installation media or contact your system administrator or the
software vendor for support.'

so i click 'ok' and then it says

'Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be
reinstalled.

Do you want to install the player from the Microsoft Web site?'

so i click 'yes'

and it takes me to the download page of media player 11 for windows XP
and not vista...and it wont install after the download because i have a
more up to date version.

so i tried to uninstall wmp11 and it does nothing...

then i found the wmp_setup in teh installation folder of wmp11...i
double click that and it says there is no need to to reinstall as you
already have wmp11 installed :S

so i cant remove it...i cant install it..and i cant use it..or media
center.

what can i do whithout reformatting to get it back?

the only thing i installed today was a program called 'openal' because
a game of mine 'quake 4' was crashing and it was supposed to make it
work..which it didnt..it just gave me a bsod! then because of that i
tried installing teh latest realtek 97 drivers...quake continued to
crash so i removed it...o well,so after that stress i tried to relax
with a mp3...and bang...wmp11 aint working lol!!!

so obviously either quake/openal or the realtek drivers did it...how
can i fix it?

Windows Media Player 11- Vista
WMP stopped working a few days ago and I get the standard message about
Windows searching for a solution etc. Every timy I try opening it's the
same -no solutions offered. My question is twofold:-
1. Any ideas or suggestions
2. Can I reinstall WMP and if so how? It will not uninstall in the normal
manner- nor can I seem to find any download location for WMP 11 (Vista)?
Help please!

RE: Windows Media Player 11- Vista
Just uninstall WMP from programs. And then Download WMP 11 from
download.microsoft.com. That should fix your issue.

Re: Windows Media Player 11- Vista
Because you don't have Vista! It comes with Vista and there is no way to get
rid of it or reinstall it. If you need to reinstall media player you have to
reinstall Vista.
