Re: No Sound, From Any Sound Card
Richard:
I'm running out of ideas also. Download the Creative Sound Blaster
X-Fi series Vista Driver 2.13.0001 and unzip it. Uninstall the soundcard
drivers again then manually install the X-Fi driver. This is the driver that
I'm using with my Creative Audigy 2ZS sound card. Have a great day.

Re: No Sound, From Any Sound Card
Couple of thoughts have crossed my mind...

Would the sound card not be compatible with the motherboard?
Sound card - Sound Audigy 2
Mobo - Gigabyte K8 Triton

also

is there a "Vista Ready" sound card?

Thanks

Rich

Re: No Sound, From Any Sound Card
Dennis,

Good call my friend. I'm having trouble coming up with any other ways that i
may be able to fix this. I was actually in the market to start building my
home theater system so i purchased a receiver today that accepts usb ports to
hook up your computer to the receiver. Hopefully that will work. It would be
awesome if we could fix this though, so we can help out any future problems
people may have.

RE: No Sound, From Any Sound Card

Also, try this. Go to Hardware and Sounds in Control Panel, Click Manage
Audio Devices. Click on each of the items that control your "Speakers" and
click the "Properties" button at the bottom. Under "Advanced" uncheck the
boxes under exclusive mode. Now go back in to the "Speakers" control that
lists your sound card. Click "Properties". Click "Advanced". Now recheck the
boxes under "Exclusive Mode". Now hit the "test" button. Your sound should
now work.

This worked for me in dealing with this problem.

Hope this helps.

Hello there... I have been searching forums about this problem without any luck... I too am having this problem... I used to have sound with my old soundblaster 16 PCI card until approx 4 weeks ago with vista... I still have Mic usage but no sound output... I have tried reinstalling drivers (deleting the old ones) & have tried all the above options..and have also bought and tried a soundblaster audigy card as well ( that one the mic wouldn't even work) I have tried different speakers and tested the cable with an MP3 player...
- same symptoms... sound looks like it is working in all locations... everything shows as playing sound ..but no output at all... I know the Mic works with the soundblaster 16 card as I have playing with speech recognition and it works fine... just no output..

I am really tired/fed up with this as I have been racking my brain for 4 weeks ( I also do software support for a living so I figured this wouldn't be that hard, I have been proven wrong)

any other Ideas would really be helpful.. I'm out of them..... I'm wondering if there was a vistaupdate that did this.....

Stumped

Re: No Sound, From Any Sound Card
Okay not to sound mean or anything but have you connected the speaker to the
correct jack on the back of the sound card? Have you tried these speakers
on another system to verify they are working and that it is a problem
related to this system?

no offence taken... I will repeat myself:
... I have tried reinstalling
> drivers (deleting the old ones) & have tried all the above options..and
> have also bought and tried a soundblaster audigy card as well ( that one

I have been doing consumer technical support for over 4 years so I understand your comment...... I have tried 2 different sets of speakers that both work... I have tested the cable with an MP3 player and the speakers and cable work fine... I have swapped the card out with another one with no effect...I have tried 3 different PCI slots in the system... I have been using the old soundblaster card for 3 years ( I know which port to plug it into) also have tried everything wtih the new sound card and had the same effect (but the mic doesn't work either with the new one)... sound shows as playing but there is no output from any speakers..

the new sound card has been returned as the store would not test it for me... I am wondering if the file WDMAUD.DRV could be corrupted as it would seem that this controls windows sound & it is showing Modified: ‎November-‎30-‎07, ‏‎7:06:55 AM & Created: December-‎12-‎07, ‏‎1:22:55 PM

Not positive about the times/dates but I think this is around when it started happening...

hope that helps... I am currently trying to find a copy of this file from another vista machine (dvd-rom broke & I cannot access the cd) to try to replace the file as a test....

******edit*** That file didn't work.. I replaced it already and still no luck.. getting closer to reinstalling windows.. still trying to source out all the audio drivers to try to replace them.. then maybe trying a repair... then finally reinstalling windows.... SFC /scannow didn't work either
