Need help upgrading from vista home basic to premium
I just purchased a new hp laptop and I wanted vista home premium but it came
with home basic. Then I purchased the upgrade from microsoft's website, I
already have the Anytime Upgrade CD. Now I don't know what to do. How do I
actually upgrade to vista home premium?
Thanks in advance,
Mike W.

RE: Need help upgrading from vista home basic to premium
Put the "Anytime Upgrade CD" in and let it run. All Vista versions are on
the CD and it will upgrade to the version you purchased based on the licence
that was downloaded to your computer when you made the purchase. When you
run the "Windows anytime upgrade" it should have asked you if you have the
cd. Tell it yes and follow the prompts.
I didn't have the CD when I purchased the upgrade, but when the CD came in
the mail, all I had to do was put the CD in and the upgrade started on its
own.
Hope this helps.

RE: Need help upgrading from vista home basic to premium
I tried that but it didn't change anything. It ran for almost two hours,
then restarted, when it started back up it is still home basic version. I
read that I should have received an email after purchasing the upgrade which
contains a link to download a file with the upgrade. Any idea how to get
that or who to contact about getting the email I never receeived?
Thanks again,
Mike W.

RE: Need help upgrading from vista home basic to premium
The only thing that downloaded with my purchase was the license for the
upgraded version. I know it stores it in your digital locker. Did it ask
you about that when you purchased it? It took 3 days for it to appear in my
digital locker. I waited almost a week before I could upgrade.

RE: Need help upgrading from vista home basic to premium
I didn't know anything about a digital locker until you mentioned it. I just
went to microsoft marketplace and created my digital locker. Will it still
appear there even though I created it after purchasing the upgrade? What do
I do if it doesn't appear there?
Thanks again for all the help,
Mike W.

RE: Need help upgrading from vista home basic to premium
I purchased my upgrade from OfficeDepot and this is the email I received ....
"Download this file to the computer that you are going to upgrade. The
download link is valid for 30 days after your purchase or 3 days after you
click the link. You can also obtain your file from the digital locker website
from Microsoft.
After the file is downloaded, follow the on-screen instructions to begin the
upgrade. The upgrade process will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes. You
may be prompted to insert a Windows Anytime Upgrade disc.
To ensure easy access to your upgrade license file in the future, a copy has
been saved in the digital locker. Learn more about digital locker and upgrade
file recovery process at www.windowsanytimeupgrade.com/digitallocker."
I would wait for an email from Microsoft. If you don't get one from them in
24 hours, you will have to call them since that is where you purchased the
upgrade. You should get at least a confirmation of your purchase with
instructions. I didn't see anything in the digital locker for about 2 days;
then it was there.
