Vista 64 with latest catalyst drivers dim screen - alternate fix?

I have the latest Catalyst 7.5 'drivers only' installed. The fix listed here
(http://www.microsoft.com/communities...9e6d7fd899&p=1)
assumes that the catalyst control panel is installed.

Is there a way to correct the dull-screen issue without the catalyst control
center?

I ran into the same problem and also didn't want the Catalyst Control
Center, so I went back to the previous drivers, which seemed fine to me
in the first place.

I might add that I'm running 32-bit Vista, so this is not just a 64-bit
issue.
