opening file attachments
I only have microsoft works installed on my computer with os windows vista
home premium. When I receive a file (.doc) as an attachment via email I
cannot open it and get this message "this file does not have a program
associated with it for performing this action. Create an assocation in the
set associations control panel." What does this mean?

Re: opening file attachments
If you don't have Microsoft Works Suite, you do not have Word which would
open a .doc Word is "associated" with the .doc file type. OpenOffice Writer
can be "associated" with .doc.
You can download OpenOffice and set that Suite to open the .doc files.
http://www.openoffice.org/
After installing OpenOffice when you click on the attachement it should open
OpenOffice Writer.

Re: opening file attachments
Download and install the free Microsoft Word viewer. This will enable you to
view the files, but not edit them.
