router and wireless not communicating
Hello...I have a new computer with the new vista. We have had a wireless
connection with a router for some time now with several commputers accessing
it, they all have XP. I have entered the wireless network and it appears in
the manage wireless networks section but not in the availiable networks when
I try to connect. I am not sure of what to do I feel like it is a security
issue and the two are just not communicating, but I don't know how to fix
it....please help...Debbie

Re: router and wireless not communicating
Hi Debbie,

Start with the basics. Does your router have encryption turned on? If so,
are you certain the Vista PC has been configured to properly match your
router's encryption settings (i.e. security key, encryption type, etc.)?
Have a look at one of the XP machines to see what their settings are and
match them on the Vista machine.

Tim

RE: router and wireless not communicating
Make sure your workgroup names are the same. In XP it is MSHOME, in Vista it
is called WORKGROUP. They all have to have the SAME workgroup name. Change
vista workgroup name to MSHOME
And in Vista', go to Network, then Networking and Sharing section,
turn on Network Discovery
turn on file Sharing
turn on Public folder sharing
turn OFF password protection
