User Folder Icons
Under my user name I have folders named contacts, desktop, documents,
downloads, favorites, etc..... I accidentally deleted the "downloads"
folder. When I created a new folder to replace it I am unable to get the
icon to go back to original downloads folder icon. Can someone please point
me to the correct .dll or other location?

Thanks

Re: User Folder Icons
Jody--

I guess you mean the generic blue icon that all those folders have, if you
haven't customized it You could change it and make it a lot more exciting,
but if you want it back, I'd just right click the downloads icon that you
have>properties>previous versions tab. My concern is if the new icon you
created and named will have all the tabs, etc. but if you created it at
Cor whatever drive)\Users\Jody's Profile\Downloads I suppose it will.

1) Try Right Click>Properties>Previous Versions

2) If no joy from that try system restore points.

Good luck,

CH

You just need a desktop.ini file with the following in it:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell 32.dll,-21798
IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-184
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The file must have the Hidden and System attributes set. You can just use
the attached file. Just put it in downloads.

You also need to make the Downloads folder Read Only.

Re: User Folder Icons
The easiest way would be to delete the folder you created, then in the
'Start Search' bar on the start menu, type:

shell:downloads<Enter>

This will recreate the folder in it's default location, with it's default
name, and the customized icon.

Re: User Folder Icons
It happened to me with the Desktop folder. You can delete is no
problem and no warning messages but then everytime you start explorer
you get error messages. Stupid to junk the My Documents concept and
have end users staring at a bunch of system folders that they can
delete without even a warning message. What drugs were Msft taking
when they thought this idea up? I am long Msft shares and it really
scaring me.

Thanks for the info, but I have been playing around with this, and got
things a bit messed up. Somehow, I now have a Links folder on my Desktop
now, and it seems to be a twin to the one in the user folder. when I delete
items in one, it the changes happen to the other. When I delete the
unwanted mirror on the Desktop, the one in the user folder gets deleted too.
What can I do to stop this?

ss.

Re: User Folder Icons
'Restore Default' on the location tab doesn't fix it?

Must find more on this "shell:" stuff......

It keeps coming up here and it's a powerful command......
