media player 11 is corrupt, now what?

media player 11 is corrupt, now what?
Media player 11 freezes on me when I play certain files, mpeg and or avi.
It continues to play the file but I am unable to control volume or close it.
This is only on files that have lost the preview. In other words, i can play
files that I can see the preview, but not ones that have MPEG written on it.
When I copy these same files to another Vista pc, they play fine and the
preview shows up. I have also lost some previews on some of my photos, but I
can view them when I double click. Any Ideas?
