Ethernet cards not getting ip address in Windows Vista Ultimate
I have internet access only when Vista Ultimate is running in safe mode. When
Vista is running normally, I am unable to access the internet no matter what
ethernet cards I use. Rc2 was connecting fine before I bought the Ultimate
until I unplugged the NIC wire to move the computer. I thought the non beta
version would fix the problem. Not so.
I am using the Asus A8V mobo which has the Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010
PCI gigabit ethernet controller. Device manager shows the cards [all the ones
I tried] are installed correctly but they all say 'cable unplugged". The
latest Linksys 10/100 LNE 100TX ver 4.x card with an Infineon AN983B PCI
based Fast Ethernet adapter installed by Windows update gets stuck in
identifying the network because unable to get ip address. no help tool works
in Windows to fix the issues. i spend days and night trying to find a fix.
Nothing.
Any one can help by suggesting some kinds of tweaks?
Remember, when Windows Vista Ultimate runs in safe mode, I have no problem
whatsoever connecting to the internet or other computers. I tried all the
latest Vista drivers. Did I buy a 'safe mode " copy of Windows Vista Ultimate?
Microsoft, can you help me here. Please! Windows Vista Ultimate turns out to
be so expensive.

Re: Ethernet cards not getting ip address in Windows Vista Ultimate
Hi,
1) It works in Safe mode, so there is an indication that the device and its
driver are working properly.
2) I use that same board, and it works fine in normal mode with the driver
that comes with Vista, so I can safely state that this nic and driver are
Vista compatible and that it *should* be working.
What you likely have is interference from some program that is installed and
running in the background. Selectively disabling may help, particularly if
you are using some internet security software by the larger vendors.

Re: Ethernet cards not getting ip address in Windows Vista Ultimat
After Vista, I installed:
Adobe Reader 8, AOL 9.0 VR, ATI latest driver for Radeon 9550, Clamwin Free
Antivirus, Microsoft Student Premieum 2007, E-Sword, Windows Mobile Device
Center, Wordperfect.
I notice that the integrated gigabit ethernet card shows no Physical address
like the Belkin wireless adapter I use.
What are settings that you have when you click on Configure the
integratedethernet card ? some suggested to disable IPv4 checksum offload..
That does not work for me.

Re: Ethernet cards not getting ip address in Windows Vista Ultimat
Hi,
Disabling that function of IPv4 was a workaround in a beta, it has nothing
to do with the release version's driver.
For now, try removing your AV product and the mobile device software, see if
this resolves the issue.

Re: Ethernet cards not getting ip address in Windows Vista Ultimat
Now, I am unable to access the computer because of a registry file hive
problem from nowhere. i am looking for some help on how to use the registry
back up files in the computer to replace the corrupt or damaged ones. the
repair tools from the Visat DVD can not help. it can't even find any restore
point in the hard drive even though i saw many before the blue screen. i am
using 2 SATA WD hard drives as one drive. i have rc2 installed on another
drive and i have access to final Vista Ultimate drive. Any help on fixing the
registry back up files with .sav or .old extension so I can load the Vista
Ultimate. I am at my 2nd activation and i do not want to reinstall Vista
Ultimate again and reactivate again, unless necessary.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
