Scanners and Cameras
On Windows XP, if I click on Scanners and Cameras, a window opens that
displays the output of the camera. On my wife's Vista computer, an HP with
built-in webcam, that doesn't happen. What is the easiest way for me to see
if the camera is working? Thanks for your help.

Re: Scanners and Cameras
install irfanview www.irfanview.com then go to File> select source
select your camera (you need to do this only once)
then go to File>Aquire/batch scanning...
Irfanview is a very small lite and handy image viewer editor.. you might
need it for other things too..
tell me if this helps

Yeah, that is one of a the things that are much worse in Vista than XP.
Most of my other gripes are in the not very thought out and unfinished
explorer GUI.
I use ACDSee to import photos and videos now, but that's not free. There
are free apps such as IrfanView, as the other poster suggested.

Re: Scanners and Cameras
Why would anyone want to connect a camera to a computer for heaven's sake
when you can just slip the memory card in a card reader/writer and do the
same thing yourself. A hand job is always preferable to a machine job!!!
LOL

You can access the photographs from a camera through My Computer, just like
you can with a card reader. You obviously don't know about the advantages
of the the wizards being discussed.

Am I missin' out on somethin'? No I can't see any advantages for
downloading images from the camera as opposed to from the memory card.
Everybody relies too much on wizards these days. But hopefully I will keep
on following the conversation and learn something.
My best friend is the MD of a conglomerate and his motto is -- guess what --
KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!
Now if this is good enough for a man who can call up his private
transcontinental jet just like that, then it's got to be good enough for me.
But I am willing to listen to other views.

I've always used card readers, if I recall I tried to Xfer pics via
the camera once when I first got it (Canon digital rebel) it took
way to long. It might have been the pic bridge thing that took a long
time I can't really recall. I find it much simpler to just pop out
the compact flash card and pop it into a card reader. My father in
law has a kodak with that easy transfer software, what a pain in
the ass that is.

Hope this helps

Re: Scanners and Cameras
Hi chonorik
You like it your way ? That's fine with me (and I guess everybody else).
Some like it the other way ! Why do you bother ? Just accept it, that's all !
